GM diet

GM is a seven-day weight loss program that was developed for General Motors staff in 1985 and was said to have been developed by the US Department of Agriculture, the Food and Drug Administration and extensively tested at the Johns Hopkins Research Center, On the consumption of fewer calories, Cohen said one of the program participants that he lost about 5 kg.

System instructions

The system is divided into seven days, each with special rules, referred to the need to drink 8-12 Cuba of water every day; to maintain body moisture:

  • First day:
    • Eat any type of fruit except bananas.
    • There is no limit to the maximum amount of fruit that can be eaten.
    • The system encourages the intake of melons to increase weight loss.
  • the second day:
    • Eat fresh or cooked vegetables.
    • There is no limit to the maximum amount of vegetables that can be ingested.
    • Limit to potatoes at breakfast.
  • the third day:
    • Eat fruits and vegetables only, except potatoes and bananas.
      • There is no limit to the maximum amount that can be taken up.
  • the fourth day:
    • Eat bananas and milk only.
    • Can eat 6 large grains of bananas, or eight small beads.
    • Drink three cups of milk and preferably be skimmed.
  • The fifth day:
    • Eat 284 grams of meat, can choose between beef, chicken, or fish.
    • Possibility to eat six grains of tomatoes.
    • For vegetarians: Meat can be replaced with brown rice or home cheese.
    • Increase two additional cups of water to the amount of water taken daily; to expel uric acid resulting from digestion of meat.
  • the sixth day:
    • Eat 284 grams of meat, can choose between beef, chicken, or fish.
    • Unlimited amounts of vegetables can be added to meals, except potatoes.
    • For vegetarians: Meat can be replaced with brown rice or home cheese.
    • Increase two additional cups of water to the amount of water taken daily; to expel uric acid resulting from digestion of meat.
  • the seventh day:
    • Eat brown rice, fruit, juice, vegetables and fruits only.
    • There is no limit to the maximum amount of these foods.

Notes on the GM diet

There are some important notes about the GM system, including:

  • The system should not be followed for people with special health conditions, or for those under the age of 18, unless you consult your doctor.
  • Diet is not always a solution to weight loss. If you go back to eating as before, and not exercise, the lost weight will be recovered quickly.
  • There is no research demonstrating the effectiveness of this system.
  • The system lacks some nutrients and it depends on a small amount of protein. Studies have shown that protein contributes to weight loss and reduces hunger.
